The mission of the District is to enhance the performance and extend the network of Clubs, thereby offering greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program by:- Focusing on the critical success factors as specified by the District educational and membership goals.
- Insuring that each Club effectively fulfills its responsibilities to its members.
- Providing effective training and leadership opportunities for Club and District Officers.

It is with deep sadness and great regret
that I am notifying you of the death of Past Select Distinguished
District Governor Dori J. Drummond, DTM. Dori was a fighter to the
end, having survived for over 9 hours without the assistance of life
support. She passed away Monday, May 20, 2013. We in District 8
and throughout all of Toastmasters are saddened by the sudden change
of events in the life of a person who has touched so many.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 25th at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen, Springfield, IL 62703. Their phone number is (217) 544-5424. Visitation will be from 11:00 am-12:30 pm after which the procession will leave from the funeral home for grave side services at Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that any donations be made to the Omer Roberts Scholarship Fund. For donations for Dori Drummond, individual donors should send a check payable to "Toastmasters International" and mail them to World Headquarters, Toastmasters International, (Attention Finance Dept.) 23182 Arroyo Vista, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688-2620 with a memo line stating "District 8 Omer Roberts Inmate Scholarship Fund."
A special issue of the District 8 Newsletter The Communic~8 is going to be produced which will focus entirely on the life and impact that Dori had on Toastmasters. Anyone wanting to share memories, thoughts, wishes or stories regarding Dori may mail these to the editor, Joan York at j_york71@hotmail.com. The deadline for submissions to be included in this special issue is June 10th at 5:00 pm C.D.T. Our hearts, prayers and thoughts are with Dori’s family as they go through this challenging time.
